6th Grade Insights Classes Bring Stories to Life with Stop-Motion Projects

Sixth-grade Insights students working on their stop-motion movie.
Oxford, Mississippi — Students in Mrs. Power’s and Mrs. Thornton’s 6th grade Insights classes recently completed a six-week stop-motion animation project that allowed them to bring stories to life. Working in teams, each group created a short “movie” made up of hundreds of individual photos. Using clay, LEGO figures, and paper cutouts, students relied on small movements and careful planning to produce their final product.
Throughout the project, students collaborated in small groups to develop ideas, build scenes, and capture images one frame at a time. The process required problem-solving, teamwork, and patience as students worked through challenges and pieced their stories together. Additionally, this gave students the opportunity to explore the basics of storytelling through a creative and hands-on approach.
At the end of the semester, students shared their completed projects during an “Animation Celebration.” The event gave students an opportunity to view one another’s projects and celebrate the creativity and effort developed throughout their class experience.
